Abstract
A selective identification medium for Neisseria gonorrhoeae was devised by incorporating antibiotics and a mixture of sugars into a yeast extract agar. The results were compared with those using a standard combined selective/non-selective blood agar medium. Recovery rates of N gonorrhoeae from specimens from 208 patients cultured on both media were comparable, but the selective descriptive medium identified 68 cultures of N gonorrhoeae correctly, 64 of them after 24 hours' incubation.Entities:
