Recurrent acute pancreatitis and intussusception complicating an intraluminal duodenal diverticulum.

M Griffin, W D Carey, R Hermann, E Buonocore.

Abstract

A patient is presented who exhibited recurrent episodes of acute pancreatitis as well as intermittent intussusception. It is felt that both of these abnormalities are due to an intraluminal duodenal diverticulum. The developmental theories of the intraluminal duodenal diverticulum are discussed. Early recognition of intraluminal duodenal diverticulum is aided by the awareness of its existence and the characteristic appearance on upper gastrointestinal barium examination. Surgery is curative.
