Gastric pepsin secretion after prolonged use of cimetidine.

Eleven patients with proven duodenal ulcer disease but no crater endoscopically were placed on a double-blind, 12-month study of cimetidine vs. placebo b.i.d. There was no evidence of either pepsin or acid rebound hypersecretion at the end of the 12-month study and no obvious differences in this small number of patients between placebo and cimetidine treatment.
