Cysts of the esophagus.

M Kahle, E G Weber.

Abstract

Among the pathological changes producing dysphagia, cysts are of only minor importance. Intramural pseudodiverticulosis of the esophagus as a consequence of cystic esophagitis with scarring of the submucosa and subsequent stenosis, has been observed more frequently in recent years. Congenital cysts are rarely diagnosed preoperatively. Their removal presents no technical problems. It should be remembered that esophageal cysts might be the reason for dysphagia.
