A new trephine for closed bone marrow biopsy.

K Landys.

Abstract

Our experience with a new trephine, called the LM-trephine, for carrying out bone marrow biopsy is reported. This trephine is larger and stronger than most previously described instruments. Two main problems in bone marrow biopsy, namely compression and difficulty in obtaining specimens from osteoblastic (or sclerotic) metastases are overcome by the special design of the LM-trephine tip. 310 out-patients with different tumour diseases were examined, and no complications were observed.
