Salmonellosis.

R C Patten.

Abstract

The salmonellae are a large group of ubiquitous microorganisms which have an extensive reservoir in man and other animals. Disease caused by these bacteria is widespread and accounts for significant morbidity and, in most of the world, significant mortality. The microorganisms probably cannot be eradicated, but effective measures are available for prophylaxis and treatment of salmonella infections. The importance of controlling these preventable diseases should be stressed among physicians and patients.
