[The use of organic nitrates to lower intraocular pressure in outpatient and surgical treatment (author's transl)].

A Wizemann, V Wizemann.

Abstract

Intravenously administered nitroglycerin lowers intraocular pressure both in glaucoma patients and healthy subjects. The effect is dose-related. The use of the drug in ocular hypotensive therapy before and after surgery is suggested. Nitrates administered orally (isosorbide dinitrate 2 x 40 mg daily, depot form) bring about a comparable lowering of IOP and are suitable for outpatient treatment.
