Battered wives: barriers to identification and treatment.

Bruce J Rounsaville1.

Abstract

As it becomes increasingly evident that wife-beating is widespread in the United States, the need for adequate professional assitance to the victims becomes more pressing. This study, reflecting the author's experiences in offering psychiatric counseling to battered wives, outlines the difficulties in reaching out to this population and offers suggestions for treatment approaches.
