CT diagnosis of splenic laceration.

J C Mall, J A Kaiser.

Abstract

Five patients with possible splenic injury after blunt abdominal trauma were examined by computed tomography (CT). The diagnosis of splenic laceration and hemoperitoneum (without subcapsular hematoma) was established in each patient and confirmed at surgery. The diagnostic findings are described and the advantages and disadvantages of CT in this clinical situation compared with radionuclide scanning and angiography are discussed.
