Abstract
The increase in blood glucose in insulin-dependent diabetics after different fruit meals was investigated. Apple, banana and orange loads were compared with an equal amount of glucose dissolved in water. The postprandial blood glucose responses to pure glucose, apple and banana were almost identical, while the response after orange was somewhat weaker. We therefore conclude that though these fruits contain considerable amounts of fructose, they represent an important source of rapidly absorbable carbohydrate and should mainly be used in mixed meals.Entities:
