Abstract
The lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase activity of human plasma was found to be inhibited by Rowachol, a proprietary mixture of pure monoterpenes. Menthol, the major ingredient in Rowachol (32%), and a number of other monoterpenes were found to inhibit the enzyme independently. Concentrations of monoterpenes required to achieve 50% inhibition were of the same order of magnitude as the cholesterol concentration present in the reaction mixture.Entities:
