Cutaneous metastasis from papillary carcinoma of the thyroid gland. Report of two cases.

Y Horiguchi, C Takahashi, S Imamura.

Abstract

Two cases of metastatic skin tumors on the scalp appearing several years after thyroidectomy for thyroid papillary carcinoma are reported. Histologic examination of biopsy specimens from both patients revealed glandular-forming masses with intricate papillary folds in the dermis. The tumor epithelium was composed of single-layered cylindrical and cuboidal cells without atypia. Using the immunoperoxidase technic, many of the proliferating cells were shown to produce triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroglobulin (Tg).
