Treatment of status asthmaticus with halothane.

S H Schwartz.

Abstract

We describe two patients with status asthmaticus who did not improve with conventional treatment and remained severely bronchospastic when mechanically ventilated. Each had a prompt bronchodilator response to the administration of halothane. We discuss the potential benefits and the possible risks of this mode of therapy.
