Autoimmune disease developing after augmentation mammoplasty: report of 3 cases.

K M Fock, P H Feng, B H Tey.

Abstract

Three patients who developed autoimmune disease after mammoplasty are described. One had features similar to systemic scleroderma, one was similar to systemic lupus erythematosus whilst the 3rd has features of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. All 3 patients had augmentation mammoplasty 5-25 years prior to development of autoimmune disease. A possible causal relationship between mammoplasty and the development of autoimmune disease is discussed.
