Fournier gangrene following urethral necrosis by indwelling catheter.

M S Karim.

Abstract

A patient with Fournier gangrene secondary to necrosis of the urethra by a catheter balloon is presented. This is believed to be the first case of scrotal and perineal gangrene resulting from an indwelling catheter. The fact that an inflated catheter balloon can slip down into the urethra and produce necrosis is demonstrated. A short review of the literature is presented.
