Mortality among inmates of a common lodging house.

N J Shanks.

Abstract

A retrospective study of homeless men revealed a significantly different distribution of cause of death compared with the general population. A significant relative excess mortality was shown for malignant and respiratory diseases (including tuberculosis) and a significantly reduced relative mortality was shown for heart and cerebrovascular diseases. Seasonal factors appeared to affect mortality.
