Abstract
A statistical procedure for comparing the survival of two or more groups of patients adjusted for normal mortality expectation, i.e. for calculating relative survival, is proposed. The method is shown to correspond to some commonly used procedures for comparing unadjusted survival; it provides an improvement over these procedures in many situations, even when the normal mortality expectations for the patient groups are the same.
