Recommended procedures for in-use testing of large volume parenterals suspected of contamination or of producing a reaction in a patient. National Coordinating Committee on Large Volume Parenterals.

.

Abstract

Guidelines for hospital detection of possible microbial contaminants of large volume parenterals are presented. Operational definitions are given, and the guidelines are divided into procedures or steps (1) to be taken in the patient care area by its personnel and that are practical for application in the hospital microbiological laboratory with limited facilities, and (2) those for the expert microbiological laboratory of health departments, teaching hospitals, large community hospitals or specialized research laboratories with experience and responsibility for handling more detailed procedures.
