[Mechanisms of photodamage of eye structures. The effect of UV light on soluble lens proteins].

Abstract

UV photo-damaging effect on soluble proteins of eye lens has been studied. Illumination resulted in yellow color of these proteins: new absorption maxima of 245 and 305 nm appeared. Oxidation of SH-groups and protein aggregation during photo-damaging have been shown.
