[Intramyocardial block in carbamazepin poisoning].

M Schwartau, G Wahl, J Bücking.

Abstract

A 37-year-old woman took 20 g carbamazepine with suicidal intent. After 16 hours the serum carbamazepine level was 260 mg/l. She died 29 hours after taking the tablets. Main cause of death was progressive intramural conduction disturbance. As carbamazepine is widely used, it should also be considered in intoxications associated with intraventricular and intramyocardial conduction disturbances. Haemoperfusion is suggested as a means of secondary poison elimination.
