Impacted supernumerary teeth: a survey of 50 cases.

M M Nazif, R C Ruffalo, T Zullo.

Abstract

Supernumerary teeth are considered one of the most significant dental anomalies during the primary and early mixed dentition stages. A total of 50 patients, ranging in age from 16 months to 17 years, were studied before, during, and after the surgical removal of their supernumerary teeth. Early removal of such teeth is recommended if they impede the eruption of adjacent permanent teeth, appear inverted or rudimentary, or if they are associated with certain pathological conditions. Complications associated with early removal are infrequent and seem minor in nature.
