Lactobacillus plantarum endocarditis.

Abstract

Subacute bacterial endocarditis developed in a 30-year-old male with rheumatic valve disease. The causative organism was identified as Lactobacillus plantarum. After three different antibiotic regimens had failed to control the infection, surgical replacement of the affected valve was curative.
