Abstract
Seven cases of slipped capital femoral epiphysis appearing concurrently with juvenile hypothyroidism are reported. This association seems to occur more commonly than the general incidence of slipped capital femoral epiphysis or of juvenile hypothyroidism would suggest, and the thyroid hormone deficiency and a diminished strength of the epiphyseal growth plate of the upper femur appear to be associated. Although concrete scientific data are as yet not available to define clearly the effect of thyroid hormone on the growth plate, the possible pathophysiology is discussed in light of available data.Entities:
