Unilateral pulmonary edema (down lung syndrome) following urological operation.

F J Snoy, J R Woodside.

Abstract

We present 2 cases of unilateral pulmonary edema. The physiology of pulmonary ventilation and perfusion in relation to positioning for a urological operation is discussed. The lateral decubitus position can compromise down lung mechanics and result in unilateral pulmonary edema in situations when volume overload exists.
