Binding of apolipoprotein E-rich remnant lipoproteins to human liver membranes.

C H Florén.

Abstract

Human intermediate-density lipoprotein (1.006-1.019 kg/l), 'plasma chylomicrons', and chylomicron remnants bind to adult human liver membranes by mechanisms that are dependent on the presence of calcium. Binding of chylomicrons and chylomicron remnants to human liver membranes also involved a saturable component. This suggests that chylomicrons, intermediate-density lipoprotein, and chylomicron remnant particles, which all have a high content of apolipoprotein E per particle, are recognized by specific structures on adult human liver (presumably the apolipoprotein B + E or E receptor).
