["Static" and dynamic contrast enhancement of the trunk--computer tomography (author's transl)].

K H Hübener, K J Klott.

Abstract

The results of injecting intravenous contrast on density measurements of the major parenchymatous organs and large vessels in the trunk are analysed. The increased density gradient between a lesion and its surroundings produced by contrast may be a significant factor in improving spatial resolution and the value of suitable contrast enhancement has been studied. The concept of "over enhancement" has been introduced. The term "angio-CT" is defined and contrasted with "sequential-CT". This may enable one to carry out a functional study of important parenchymatous organs. Examples are given of the indications for "angio-CT". The events which occur during sequential-CT, after contrast enhancement, of the aorta, kidneys, liver and spleen are demonstrated pictorially.
