Abstract
Thirteen healthy subjects participated in a double blind, randomized, cross-over investigation of whether or not intranasal disodium chromoglycate could block the change in nasal airway resistance induced by platelet activating factor (PAF). Placebo or active drug was given for 3 days before intranasal challenge with PAF. Nasal airway resistance before and at intervals after challenge was determined with a rhinomanometer. Pretreatment with disodium chromoglycate blocked the decrease in nasal airway resistance induced by PAF. This indicates an alternative mode of action of disodium chromoglycate in the treatment of allergic airway diseases.Entities:
