Peroneal palsy produced by intravenous fluid infiltration in a newborn.

K L Kreusser, J J Volpe.

Abstract

A premature infant developed peroneal palsy as a result of infiltration of intravenous fluids, a previously unrecognized cause. Electrophysiological evidence of peroneal-nerve injury is presented. Caution is advocated in the placement of intravenous lines in small infants.
