Unusual presentation of appendiceal abscess on barium contrast studies.

M M Riddlesberger, E Afshani, J P Kuhn, D O Duszynski.

Abstract

The defect of an appendiceal abscess on a barium enema is most often seen on the medial aspect of the cecum. However, the site of involvement may vary depending on the location of the appendix. This paper illustrates some of the unusual radiographic findings that were found on barium enemas in six pediatric patients with appendiceal abscess that were not involving the medial cecum.
