Microtubules during formation of the micropylar canal in Drosophila melanogaster.

L H Margaritis.

Abstract

The micropylar apparatus in Drosophila melanogaster contains a 0,8 micron wide canal through which sperm entry occurs. During oogenesis the canal is formed by deposition of extracellular material (chorion) around long cellular processes filled with microtubules.
