Abstract
The control of FSH and LH secretion by the pituitary gland is clearly multifactorial. The evidence that LHRH influences the release and stores of both FSH and LH is considerable, and equally well documented is the fact that testosterone and oestradiol will suppress the secretion not only of LH but also of FSH. Recently evidence points to the existence of inhibin which will suppress FSH secretion but which in higher doses will also decrease LH levels. It is therefore likely that the ratio of FSH to LH secreted by the gonadotrope is determined by the summation of the action of these factors on cellular mechanisms that remain to be determined.Entities:
