Abstract
Chlamydia trachomatis, Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma hominis are frequently demonstrated in cases of acute gonorrhoeic urethritis. Among 143 males (average age 22.5 years) Chlamydia was demonstrated in 29%, U. urealyticum in 34% and M. hominis in 13%. Penicillin treatment of gonorrhoea does not affect Chlamydia and Mycoplasma so that these organisms will persist in the lower urogenital tract. Generally postgonorrhoeic urethritis is associated with Chlamydia or Mycoplasma infection. Nearly all patients were cured by tetracyclin or erythromycin administration. Incidence and complications of gonorrhoea co-infected with Chlamydia and Mycoplasma should be taken into account in its diagnosis and treatment.Entities:
