[Demonstration of an original process of asexual reproduction in Schistosoma haematobium].

J Jourdane.

Abstract

The study of development of a Malagash strain of Schistosoma haematobium in Bulinus obtusispira reveals two original processes in asexual reproduction: (a) The existence of an evolutive dimorphism of the secondary sporocysts: - an important secondary sporocyst population, localized mainly in the foot, produces daughter sporocysts (order III); - a minor secondary sporocyst population, localized mainly in the digestive gland, produces cercariae. (b) A part of secondary sporocysts which, after leaving the primary sporocyst, does not migrate but develops in the foot of the snail.
