Abstract
Mutants of Escherichia coli with deletions of the recB and recC genes were obtained by two methods using transposable DNA elements. The phenotypes of these mutants are similar to those of mutants with recBC point mutations. These results indicate that the RecBC gene products, exonuclease V, is not essential for the growth of E. coli but is important for DNA repair and recombination.Entities:
