Abstract
A cytogenetic study of the meiotic chromosomes of the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae was undertaken by high resolution epifluorescence microscopy. Condensation of chromatin into separate chromosomes takes place during prophase I. At metaphase I, there are 16 separate and distinct bivalents which are roughly classified into three groups by morphological differences and DNA content.Entities:
