Abdominoplasty: peri- and supra-umbilical lipectomy.

The historical evolution of abdominoplasty, from the first reference to this type of operation in 1880 up to today, is summarized. A description is given of the author's contribution to abdominal surgery through a peri- and supra-umbilical lipectomy, which produces a better final outcome with regard to the resultant depression in this region, conveying a more natural aspect. The losangular scar for constructing the umbilicus is also reported.
