Disseminated Candida glabrata: report of a uniquely severe infection and a literature review.

W F Hickey, L H Sommerville, F J Schoen.

Abstract

The autopsy of an immunosuppressed patient with diabetes died of Candida glabrata sepsis revealed widely disseminated infection. There was invasion of previously viable tissue, including cardiac microabscesses, a feature not previously reported for this organism. The pathology, clinical features, and methods of diagnosing C. glabrata infections are reviewed.
