Abstract
This study involved a retrospective analysis of the various factors which may have contributed to the outcome of pancreatic allograft and patient survival in our initial series of 13 segmental pancreatic transplants. Six of these patients received simultaneously renal allografts from the same donor. Pretransplant factors, such as prolonged warm ischemia and hypothermic storage periods greater than 12 hours after harvesting, correlated with an increase in acute post-transplant pancreatic failure. No clear correlation could be established between surgical techniques and final outcome of the pancreatic allograft. Rejection continues to be a major obstacle to achievement of long term pancreatic allograft function, although it was more easily monitored in the combined renal and pancreatic transplant recipients.Entities:
