Abstract
Bovine leukosis describes lymphatic cancers of cattle. The most common form of this disease occurs in adult animals and is caused by bovine leukemia virus. Infection is widespread in the United States, especially in dairy cattle, but the virus produces tumors in only a small percentage of infected animals. Nevertheless, bovine leukemia virus has been receiving attention from the dairy industry because of its importance in health certification of cattle or semen intended for export. Another source of concern is whether bovine leukemia virus poses any risk to human health. These problems are discussed in the light of recent technological advances in tumor virus research and specifically regarding our current understanding of the biology of bovine leukemia virus.Entities:
