Abstract

Comparative immunohistochemical localization of gamma-melanocyte stimulating hormone (gamma-MSH) and adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH1-24) was studied on bovine and human pituitaries. By the combination of peroxidase labelled antibody method and "mirror" sections, it was clearly demonstrated that gamma-MSH and ACTH were present in the same cells in pars distalis and in pars intermedia or zona intermedia of the bovine and human pituitaries, respectively. Our studies further supported the concept of the production of precursor molecule or these peptides in pars distalis as well as in pars (zona) intermedia.
