Abstract
DNA from individuals heterozygous for the extended alpha-chain variant Hb Grady were studied by gene counting and restriction enzyme analysis. Neither method indicated the presence of an extra (fifth) alpha gene, which argues that if this variant arose by unequal crossing over, the event most likely involved mispairing between alleles rather than between the separate alpha 1 and alpha 2 loci.Entities:
