[Mechanical obstruction of the large intestine by wheat bran].

Since a 1971 a high daily fibre intake has progressively won a place as therapy and prophylaxis for various diseases. Thus far there have been no reports of severe adverse side effects from high residue diet. Four patients are presented in whom wheat bran in the usual dosage caused mechanical obstruction in the lower rectum.
