Hydroxamate siderophore mediated iron uptake in E. coli: stereospecific recognition of ferric rhodotorulic acid.

B F Matzanke, G I Müller, K N Raymond.

Abstract

Ferric ion uptake via the fhuE receptor of E. coli is stereospecific; it prefers the delta-absolute configuration of the metal complexes. The importance of the metal center and its adjacent functionalities for the stereospecific recognition of ferrichromes via TonA is discussed.
