Mini-sphenoidal electrodes in the investigation of seizures.

K D Laxer.

Abstract

A technique to record from the mesiobasal temporal region is described which can be performed as part of the routine EEG recording. The mini-sphenoidal electrodes were tolerated by all of the patients and were found to be fast, reliable and applicable to outpatient recordings. A small population of patients was studied which demonstrated that the electrodes added useful information not supplied by traditional scalp electrodes in the evaluation of patients with seizure disorders. The electrodes provided information comparable to traditional sphenoidal electrodes, although decreased in amplitude.
