Histochemical study of globules in accessory cells of sea-urchin ovary: in relation to jelly coat substance.

A Jondeung, G Czihak.

Abstract

Accessory cells of the sea-urchin ovary were studied histologically and histochemically. Different types of globules in these cells were distinguished. Histochemical observations suggest that the accessory cells synthesize neutral mucosubstances, sulfo- and sialopolysaccharides, which might be precursors for jelly formation.
