Conversion of RNA to DNA in mammals: Alu-like elements and pseudogenes.

P A Sharp.

Abstract

Striking similarities between a subclass of mammalian pseudogenes and the Alu family of short repetitive DNA sequences which are dispersed throughout the mammalian genome, suggest that both are created by integration into the genome of DNA copies of RNA transcripts.
