Abstract
One-hundred-and-fifty overweight patients, who were given advice about losing weight during a period of eight years in a suburban general practice of 2000 individuals in the British National Health Service, have been followed up for a minimum of 10 years. Treatment consisting of attempting to modify the individual's eating habits by means of a free diet low in carbohydrate and moderate in fat has resulted in some measure of success in about three-quarters of the individuals and almost one half (48 per cent) maintained significant weight loss at the end of the period. Frequent consultations and the judicious exhibition of anorectic drugs have both played a part in producing these results.Entities:
