[Local use of aprotinin in neurosurgical operations for the prevention of hyperfibrinolytic hemorrhage].

D Giromini, T Tzonos.

Abstract

The local use of a commercial solution of the proteinase inhibitor aprotinin (Trasylol) prevents a premature fibrinolysis which may lead to post-operative hyperfibrinolytic bleeding. Among 1.236 neurosurgical patients in whom aprotinin was routinely locally applied there were 8 cases of post-operative bleeding (0,6%). In 7 of these cases an impaired coagulation had been previously found or was found during surgery. The intra-operative use of Trasylol appears to be suited to reduce the rate of post-operative haemorrhagic complications in neurosurgery.
