Immunochemical investigations on Bacteroides fragilis antigenic structure.

Bacteroides fragilis strain 62/73 was studied. We demonstrated that formation of capsules is not a constant feature of cells of this strain. After chemical treatment we obtained six serologically active substances. The studied strain releases serologically active substances into the culture medium. We also found that endotoxin is the bacterial fraction according to which the strain may be classified to the appropriate serotype.
