A monoamine-detecting histofluorescence technique for use on wholemounts of molluscan tissues.

A Barber.

Abstract

A histochemical procedure is described which has been used to visualize monoamine-containing neurons, fibers and varicosities within wholemounts of a number of tissues of the marine gastropod mollusc, Philine aperta. The method is rapid and simple and the morphology of the specimen is preserved without distortion. This technique may facilitate studies of the distribution of monoamines in the tissues of other marine molluscs.
